There is always somebody who is willing to pay the top dollar to get it.

I would guess that the last high bids were both from bidders outside of Taiwan. The price of flying geese, stamps or covers, in Taiwan seems lower than that of the comparable material offered abroad.

ming8686 2013-11-04 10:16
I agree. I know few people here are constantly looking for this type of covers. Some tends to bid much higher than my estimate.

Here is another one. This cover has one TA10 $200,000 surcharge. $7.5 matches the required postage.

Nice cover.

congratulations! I was the third highest bidder - just a little over 1/3 of your bid. This seller seems to have a few flying geese covers. Let's see what he will offer next.

I rememeber there was a cover franked with 2X4  (TA10 $200,000 surcharge) horizontal block of eight on Ebay earlier this year. I was too busy at that time and missed the opportunity.

ming8686 2014-02-17 06:52
It is clear to me that this seller has access to lots of flying geese covers sending from Bank of China to Cuba during the early 50's. It is possible that these covers are actually from Cuba which most people don't have access to.

Here is another one he just sold.

I'm wondering if he has one or two flying geese covers with the scarce $20 stamps on them.

ming8686 2014-03-03 09:00
Another good one.

Did you get the 200k geese cover this time?
I overlooked the lot.

ming8686 2014-03-24 00:17
Jason,

I'm not aware of the said $200K  geese cover on the auction sites that I monitored.

ming8686 2014-05-12 06:02
New sets of second and third overprints. For some reason, this seller likes to place his stamps on the hard wood floor then take pictures. He does not seem to care about these stamps.

This seems like a very good deal if the 3rd print $50 is in good shape!

Another nice flying geese cover. The seller showed the front side of the cover on the listing, which did not include the $200K and geese stamps. I believe a few collectors may have missed the opportunity to bid. Sir Stafford Cripps was a person of significance during that time.

Good eye, Jason. good eye!

jason1 2014-09-16 17:33
Dear Ming:

I keep on buying them all for any available.

Jason.

ming8686 2014-09-21 05:01
Three covers from the same seller - a US seller who often sells inexpensive items according to my experience. The auction ended around 3:30AM Taiwan local time. I guess there were more US bidders this time.

Very disappointed with the third cover - it did not even get $1,500 USD which it deserves. I guess if it was a block of 10 geese stamps on the cover, it would have ended much higher.

Jason, you should have gotten the third cover. It is a very rare super multi-franked cover. Hopefully what you got has a short five on it.

First Cover.

Second Cover,

Third Cover.

Due to the significance of the third cover (insignificant price though), Picture is posted. If not appropriate, please let me know. I'll delete it. I've not seen covers with more than 10 geese stamps recently.

There are still quite a few flying geese covers waiting to be uncovered at someone's attic.

jason1 2014-09-21 13:40
No I was outbid, where I offer 1,001 for it.
For the possible short 5 cover, yes I got it.
I would let you know if it's a short 5 after I got it.

ming8686 2014-09-21 14:02
I could have easily outbid him had I not outbid him on the first one. I did not bid the third cover since I thought it would have been more than $1,500 - big mistake.

Flying geese covers tend to sell at a higher price outside Taiwan due to some serious collectors reside overseas.

ming8686 2014-09-23 02:23
Just had a chance to talk to the seller regarding shipping. She indicated that these three covers were part of the collection from a New York Symphony Orchestra musician who travelled to China (should be Taiwan I guess) in the 70's. The person acquired these covers during that time and had no idea about the value of these covers. He sold all of his collections to the seller for a moderate price.

The seller asked me why they are so valuable and I told her the story. So even a 30+ year APS pro like her may not know about the flying geese stamps since she deals with stamps world wide. SHe would not tell me the cost of the lot but she for sure got a great deal this time. This will never happen in Taiwan!.

BTW, she specifically said that she does not like to ship internationally for high value items like this. She got burn before.

The geese and 44 mixed franking comprises a Short 5 surcharge indeed as I check it carefully.

ming8686 2014-10-23 00:33
Then that's a very good buy in my opinion.

ming8686 2014-10-30 12:31
The power of Da Ti Dot Bi (Position 14). The same person won the item again (last one went for $2077). He apparently has a special taste on such kind of covers.
He did not win it cheap though.
